ABOUT ME
NOBUO HARA
My name is Nobuo Hara. I grew up in Japan with a hearing family; I am Deaf. Growing up Deaf, I experienced significant disadvantages due to my peers, educators, and teachers not understanding Deafness or the importance of sign language. I moved to Australia 14 years ago and taught Auslan classes and LOTE with Access Plus WA Deaf for over 12 Years. I hold a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and qualifications as a Japanese Sign Language Trainer.
I am actively involved in the community, being a member of my local rugby team and participating in initiatives with local and Deaf and Hard of Hearing artists.
About Sign Language
Sign language is a manual form of communication, commonly used by Deaf or Hard of Hearing people. There is no universal sign language and different sign languages are used in different countries and regions.
Auslan is the sign language of the Australian community, however there are some minor sign differences between states.
